The present invention relates to methods for producing a polypeptide comprising using a signal peptide foreign to the polypeptide, nucleic acid constructs comprising a first and a second nucleotide sequence encoding the signal peptide and the polypeptide and expression vectors and host cells comprising said nucleic acid construct. The signal peptide is the LQ2 peptide which is a hybrid of sequence from the signal peptide of alpha amylase from Bacillus licheniformis and of alpha amylase from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens.

A nucleic acid construct comprising a first nucleotide sequence encoding a signal peptide operably linked to a second nucleotide sequence encoding a polypeptide, wherein the first nucleotide sequence is foreign to the second nucleotide sequence, and the 3′ end of the first nucleotide sequence is immediately upstream of the second nucleotide sequence, and the first nucleotide sequence is selected from the group consisting of:
(a) a nucleotide sequence encoding a signal peptide having an amino acid sequence which has at least 80% identity with SEQ ID NO:1; and (b) a nucleotide sequence having at least 80% identity with the sequence shown in positions 575 to 661 of SEQ ID NO:10.
