A driving tool with a housing, a motor received in the housing, a control unit and a trigger. The housing defines a handle. The control unit is configured to operate the motor and has a microswitch, an actuator arm and a spring. The actuator arm is biased by the spring toward the microswitch. The spring is configured to move the actuator arm against the microswitch to cause the microswitch to operate in an actuated switch state. The trigger is coupled to the handle and is movable between a first trigger position and a second trigger position. The trigger has a switch arm that cooperates with the actuator arm to form a lost-motion coupling that permits a predetermined amount of movement of the trigger from the first trigger position to the second trigger position before coupling the switch arm to the actuator arm. The actuator member does not contact the microswitch when the trigger is in the second trigger position so that the microswitch operates in a nominal switch state.

1. A driving tool comprising:
a housing defining a handle; a backbone structure received in the housing; a rotary motor mounted to the backbone structure; a flywheel mounted to the backbone structure and driven by the motor; a driver; an actuator coupled to the backbone structure, the actuator being selectively operable to drive the driver into engagement with a circumferential surface of the flywheel to transmit power from the flywheel to the driver to cause the driver to translate along a translation axis; a control unit coupled to the backbone structure, the control unit being configured to control operation of the motor and the actuator, the control unit having:
a trigger switch operable in a first switch state and a second switch state;an actuator arm translatable relative to the backbone structure along a first axis between a first arm position and a second arm position; anda spring engaging the actuator arm and biasing the actuator arm toward the first arm position, wherein when the actuator arm is in the first arm position, the trigger switch is in the first switch state and the actuator arm contacts the trigger switch, and wherein when the actuator arm is in the second arm position, the trigger switch is in the second switch state and the actuator arm is not in contact with the trigger switch; and a trigger including a trigger member coupled to the handle and movable between a first trigger position and a second trigger position, and a switch arm that is fixedly coupled to the trigger member and contacts the actuator arm when the trigger member is in the second trigger position; wherein movement of the trigger member from the first trigger position to the second trigger position moves the actuator arm to the second arm position so that the trigger switch operates in the second switch state.
