The present invention provides redox-activated chelators and methods for using the same to treat cancer. In one particular embodiment, the redox-activated chelator is of the formula:;

each of m and n is an integer from 0 to 4;each of Ar1 and Ar2 is independently aryl or heteroaryl;each of R1, R2, R5 and R6 is independently hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, electron withdrawing group or an anion stabilizing group;each of R3 and R4 is independently alkyl, halide, or other electron withdrawing group or an anion stabilizing group. |
