Treatment or prophylaxis of asthma

There is provided a method for prophylaxis or treatment of asthma in an individual. The method comprises administering to the individual an effective amount of a Non-typable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) vaccine. The vaccine is typically an oral whole killed NTHi vaccine.

A method for treatment of acute exacerbations of asthma in an individual with chronic airways disease characterised by reversible airways obstruction, the method comprising orally administering an effective amount of a vaccine preparation to the individual, wherein the vaccine preparation comprises an oral whole cell killed non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) vaccine, and wherein the asthma is characterized by an elevated eosinophil level and an elevated neutrophil level in sputum or saliva.
