A polymer electrolyte membrane for a fuel cell is provided to realize excellent proton conductivity, thermal stability, dimensional stability and long-term stability and to reduce fuel crossover. A polymer electrolyte membrane for a fuel cell comprises a polymer including an arylene backbone to which a substituent represented by the following formula 1 is bound. In formula 1, R represents H, F, a non-substituted alkyl or an alkyl substituted with O, N or S; and x is an integer of 1-10. The alkyl group is a C1-C24 alkyl group. The polymer has a weight average molecular weight of 1,000-5,000,000. |
