NOVEL PROTEIN AND DNA THEREOF

A novel protein having an Na<+>-HCO3<-> cotransporter activity; a DNA encoding the same, etc. This protein and the DNA encoding the same are usable: (1) in acquiring an antibody and an antiserum; (2) in constructing a recombinant protein expression system; (3) in developing a system for assaying the activity of Na<+>-HCO3<-> cotransporter and screening compounds candidates for a drug by using the above expression system; (4) in drug-designing based on the three-dimensional structure of the Na<+>-HCO3<-> cotransporter protein; (5) as reagents for constructing probes and PCR primers in gene diagnosis; (6) in constructing a transgenic animal; and (7) as drugs such as gene preventives and/or remedies.
