PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain basic section IDT electrodes without reflection whose oscillation center position is uniform with that of a one-directional basic section IDT electrode in order to constitute a transversal surface acoustic wave filter having a reduced insertion loss. SOLUTION: In this surface acoustic wave transducer with a electrode finger pair consisting of four electrode fingers as a basic section, in the case of defining the four electrode fingers as the first, second, third and fourth respectively in an arraying order, the widths of the first to fourth electrode fingers are made to be 0.121λ, 0.063λ, 0.117λand 0.187λ, a gap between the first and second electrode fingers is 0.144λ, a gap between the second and third electrode fingers is 0.213λ, a gap between the third and fourth electrode fingers is 0.078λand a gap between the fourth electrode fingers and the first electrode finger of an adjacent basic section is 0.077λ.
