PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanner adjustment value discrimination method by which a sheet-feeding or a self-scanning scanner can automatically conduct shading correction. SOLUTION: Data obtained by scanning of a read object while a light source of a scanner read section is put out are compared with a black reference data (step S105), scanning is applied to the read object while the light source of the scanner read section is lighted and data obtained by this scanning are compared with white reference data (step S106), and a warning is given in the case that the comparison result between the data obtained by the scanning and the black reference data or the white reference data indicates deviation over a prescribed range.
