PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine starting device capable of achieving reduction of noise, miniaturization of the device, and improvement of durability. SOLUTION: This engine starting device 1 comprises a starting motor 3 rotated in starting the engine, a wedge roller type decelerating mechanism 10 that outputs rotation of the starting motor 3 from an output shaft 19 in a decelerated state of the rotation and breaks transmission of the rotation between the starting motor 3 and the output shaft 19 when the rotation speed of the output shaft 19 becomes higher than that after the deceleration, a pinion gear 4 that is disposed on the output shaft 19 integrally rotatably and disposed movably in the axial direction of the output shaft 19 between an engaging position engaging with a ring gear 23 and a non-engaging position that does not engage with it, and a magnet switch 5 for driving the pinion gear 4 to the engaging position in starting the engine or to the non-engaging position after starting the engine. |
