PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, at a low cost, a long-life organic EL element keeping an excellent gas barrier property even if it is bent. SOLUTION: This organic EL element comprises a first laminated film, a second laminated film and an adhesive for sealing a part between them. The first laminated film includes a first laminated film having a gas barrier property and a luminescent organic film including an electrode and an organic luminescent material. The second laminated film includes a second laminated film having a gas barrier property and an electrode, and is arranged oppositely to the first laminated film by interposing the luminescent organic film. The first and second laminated films having the gas barrier property each comprise a base material film, and at least one inorganic layer and at least one resin layer formed on the base material film. In the organic EL element, steam permeability is below 5 g/m<SP>2</SP>day at 40°C and at a relative humidity of 90% when the film thickness of the adhesive is 100μm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
