PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for producing sterile water controlled in the amount of an aqueous acidic solution to be mixed so as to eliminate the danger of occurrence etc., of gaseous chlorine even when a buffer tank and the like are not provided, in producing the weakly acidic sterile water composed of hypochlorous acid and chlorous acid as principal components. SOLUTION: The apparatus has a drainage mechanism to spray and/or sprinkle the sterile water prepared by diluting the aqueous hypochlorous acid and chlorous acid solutions into a pressure vessel 13 filled with carbon dioxide and to store the sterile water while maintaining the prescribed water level within the pressure vessel 13 and has an accumulator function capable of efficiently dissolving the carbon dioxide so as to stabilize the pH of the sterile water, by stopping the spraying and/or sprinkling when the pressure in the pressure vessel 13 exceeds the prescribed pressure or when the prescribed water level is exceeded, and performing the spraying and/or sprinkling again when the water level lowers down to the prescribed water level, and stably producing the sterile water even when the discharge amount of the sterile water containing the carbon dioxide is slight.
