The invention is a system that allows customers in a store to test telephone s, both residential corded and cordless, or cellular based, before purchasing them. The system consists of a device installed at the location where the various telephones are displayed for customers to view and purchas e. Each of the demonstration telephones is plugged into a separate phone jack on the invention or in the case of cellular phones there will not be a physical jack, but the phones will be registered on the local Basestation simulator. Many phone jacks are supplied to allow many telephones to be simultaneously plugged in. In one embodiment, the customer would push a button demarcated for a particular telephone causing t he telephone to ring. Upon answering the telephone, a pre-recorded message will be played back and the customer will be able to judge the performance of the telephone. Alternatively, in a different implementation, the phones on display can be made to open a voice path between two of them to allow a full two way conversation to take place. In yet another embodiment, there is no button to be pushed, but rather the user pic ks up the telephone and goes 'off hook' causing the pre-recorded message to be played or the voice path t o be established.
