<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a polarizing glass having such excellent optical characteristics that transmittance is ≥75% and contrast is 1000:1 in, especially, a green region (500 to 600 nm) out of a visible range. <P>SOLUTION: A process for producing the polarizing glass comprises: a precipitation step of melting a glass containing metal ions and halogen ions and then precipitating metal halide particles in the glass having the metal ions and halogen ions dispersed therein to produce a glass preform; a drawing step of drawing the glass preform by heating at a prescribed temperature to produce a glass sheet containing elongated metal halide particles formed by elongating the metal halide particles; and a reduction step of reducing the elongated metal halide particles in the glass sheet produced in the drawing step, to elongated metal particles. The glass preform produced in the precipitation step has a haze, as measured with light having a wavelength region which is transmitted through a G filter, of 0.3 to 1.3%. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
