<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device of which the display quality is high, by suppressing inverting of a gray scale, and with which a wide viewing angle is available, and an electronic apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The electro-optical device 100 is equipped with a pair of substrates 10, 20 placed opposite to each other and having an electro-optical layer 50 interposed in between, and an optically anisotropic layer 23 disposed on at least one substrate 20 of the pair of substrates 10, 20 on the side opposite to the electro-optical layer 50 and formed by hybrid aligning an optical medium.
