The stent to be inserted into a vessel or other tube-shaped organ of the human body is assembled of a multitude of segments (10), each comprising bridges (12, 18, 20) and joint areas (14). The stent is compressed during insertion and expanded with a suitable method when it has reached its destination. The segments (10) of the new design of a stent are assembled of three parallel positioned bridge elements (12, 18, 20) and four joint areas (14) forming a diamond shape when expanded. The central bridges (18, 20) are moved towards each other in the process and are connected with their complementary outer ends (26, 28, 30, 32). |
