A composition comprising ginseng saponin is provided to be widely applied so as to alleviate various diseases relating to homocysteine, damage of blood vessel endothelium, dysfunction of artery by lowering the concentration of the homocysteine in plasma. A pharmaceutical composition for treating and preventing cardiovascular diseases comprises saponin isolated from ginseng such as various ginsenosides. The composition further comprises at least one effective ingredient selected from the group consisting of folate, vitamin B12 and vitamin B6.
