Piperidine and piperazine derivatives of formula I <IMAGE> I wherein R1 and R2 are H or A, R3, R4 and R5 are each independently H, Hal, OH, OA, OAc, NO2, NH2, NHAc, NHSO2A or CN, or R3 and R4 together are -O-(CH2)m-O-, n is 0, 1 or 2 X is O or CH2, if n=0 or 2, or CH2, NH, NA or NAc, if n=1, Y is CH or N, m is 1 or 2, Hal is F, Cl, Br or I, A is C1-6-alkyl, Ac is C1-8-alkanoyl C1-10-aralkanoyl or C7-11-aroyl, and their physiologically acceptable salts show antiarrhythmic effects.
