The invention relates to a coupling system for transmitting digital data signals within a broadband communication system. Said coupling system is composed of individual coupling elements (KE) which are connected to each other to form at least one multistage cone. The shape of the component groups of the coupling system is chosen in such a way that at least one complete cone can be accommodated on each component group. Each component group has unidirectional optico-electric converters (OML-E) at its external data input ports and unidirectional electro-optic converters (OML-S) at its external data output ports.
