<p>PURPOSE: A VIPT(Virtual Indexed Physically Tagged) cache sub-system is provided for increasing a cache size and enhancing a performance of a corresponding data process apparatus. CONSTITUTION: A transition lookup buffer(21) translates a virtual page number among a virtual address formed of a virtual page number and an offset and generates a page base address, namely, an upper portion of a physical address which is actually used. A set associative cache(22) is formed of associative caches used for an indexing operation and stores the data and outputs a corresponding data by indexing the offset portion of the virtual address or the upper address above the offset portion. A comparator(23) compares the upper address physical tags of the data temporarily stored in the buffer and output from the set associative cache(22) and the page address addresses generated by the transition lookup buffer(21).</p> |
