PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cook rice with less energy by laying a metal cylinder having heat conduction superior to water in a rice cooker. SOLUTION: A metal cylinder 10 is constituted by putting a substance such as charcoal acting on the water quality in a porous cylinder body and sealing the both end openings of the cylinder body by porous covers. In cooking rice, the metal cylinder 10 is put in the center of the rice cooker, in which washed rice and an appropriate quantity of water are put, in its erected state and the heat is applied thereto from a heat supply 7 as usual to perform the cooking. In this case, the metal cylinder 10 is heated in prior by the heat energy and the cooking water starts to be circulated by convection with the metal cylinder 10 set to a medium. That is to say, the use of the metal cylinder 10 can improve the heat convection and quickly conduct the heat to the inside of the rice so as to cook the rice to the perfect degree of softness. It has also high heat efficiency so as to save the energy in cooking. The substance in the metal cylinder 10 such as the charcoal can remove the residual chlorine contained in service water and cook the rice tastefully.
