The internal combustion engine with at least two inlet ports(3) per cylinder has the start of a spiral tongue(15) spaced from the valve middle point(6) by a distance which is about 95 per cent plus or minus 5 per cent of the internal diameter of the valve seat. The spiral tongue at its start(14) has a concave wall section(17) with a radius which corresponds to about 50 per cent plus or minus 30 per cent the internal diameter of the valve seat, and in the region of the valve core(21) has a convex wall section(20) with a radius corresponding to about 50 per cent plus or minus 5 per cent the internal diameter of the valve seat.
