A negative electrode for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell, characterized in that it comprises a current collector and, formed on a surface or both surfaces thereof, an active material structure containing an electroconductive material being low in the capability of forming a compound with lithium, and said active material structure comprises 5 to 80 wt % of active material particles containing a material having high capability for forming a compound with lithium. The above active material structure preferably comprises an active material layer containing the above active material particles and a surface-covering layer being present on the active material layer.
