<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of achieving a fast playback operation, a reverse playback operation, and a reverse-direction fast playback operation for compression-coded video data without performing complicated bank memory control. <P>SOLUTION: When a fast playback operation is judged in a step S271, in a step S272, whether or not the subject frame is the first frame of the first GOP is judged after changing the speed setting, if the subject frame is found to be the first frame of the first GOP in the step S272, in a step S273 the omission cycle is determined, and in a step S274 a frame counter is reset. When it is judged that all of time-information display order setting queues have not been checked in a S275, the frame counter is incremented by 1 in a step S276, whether or not the frame indicated in the frame counter is to be displayed is judged in a step S277, and when not displayed, the picture ID of the subject frame is deleted from the time-information display order setting queue in a step S278, and time-information is again set in a step S279.
