A method for preparing a stainless separator for a fuel cell and a stainless separator for a fuel cell prepared by the method are provided to form a continuous and dense chromic nitride on the surface of a stainless steel. A method for preparing a stainless separator comprises the steps of preparing a stainless steel preform; (S410) washing the surface of the stainless steel with an acid; (S420) coating the acid-washed surface of the stainless steel with a composition comprising a polymer binder, chromic anhydride (CrO3) and water; (S430) heat-treating the coated stainless steel under the reductive gas atmosphere to form a chromium layer on the surface of the stainless steel; and (S440) heat-treating the stainless steel under the gas atmosphere containing nitrogen to convert the chromium layer into a chromium nitride layer.
