The present invention is a self-deploying concealed flood defence system for both domestic and industrial property. The invention consists of a flexible buoyant reinforced, water-resistant skirt 1 housed below ground level in a purpose built trench 2 covered with a hinged capping 3. Under flood conditions the skirt automatically floats from the trench and creates a flood barrier. When the flood subsides the barrier can be re housed ready for future use. The skirt may be reinforced by means of reinforcing elements (11, Fig 3) which may be housed within floatation rods (10, fig 3) positioned within voids (13, Fig 3) formed in the skirt. |
