PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a reduction in reliability of focus detection caused by image blur. SOLUTION: A digital camera is equipped with a rolling shutter system element used both for imaging and for detecting focus, in which a focus detection pixel line having a plurality of focus detection pixels is incorporated in the two-dimensional arrangement of a plurality of imaging pixels and which receives an image formed by a photographic optical system, to output an image signal and a focus detection signal, detects the focus adjustment state of the photographic optical system, based on the focus detection signal outputted from the focus detection pixel line and further, detects an image blur amount, to judge the reliability of the focus adjustment state detected by a focus detection means, according to the image blur amount, in the focus detection pixel line arranged in a direction different from the scanning direction of a rolling shutter, and adjusts the focus of the photographic optical system, based on the focus adjustment state judged to have the reliability.
