PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet type detector capable of discriminating the sheet type accurately at a relatively low cost, while relaxing the troublesomeness of a user for setting the sheet type, and suppressing occurrence of unforeseen trouble when the sheet type is not set, and to provide an image formation device.SOLUTION: An image reading unit 120 reads a document image and generates image data. A surface state determination unit 301 determines the surface state of a sheet type detection object sheet, based on the image data generated by the image reading unit 120. Based on the image data generated by the image reading unit 120 for the sheet type detection object sheet, a thickness determination unit 302 determines the thickness of the sheet. Based on the determination results from the surface state determination unit 301 and thickness determination unit 302, a sheet type specification unit 303 specifies the sheet type.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
