PURPOSE: To measure the optical angle characteristic related to luminance and chromaticity of a subject to be measured. CONSTITUTION: An objective lens 11 collects the light emitted from the measuring surface S of a subject to be measured arranged so that the measuring surface S is situated in the front side focal point to a position according to its angle, and forms an angle image (i) on the rear side focal point. A relay lens system 12 contracts and images the angle image (i) on the light receiving surface of an image pickup means 14. The image pickup means 14, which is formed of a CCD having picture elements consisting of photoelectric converting elements arranged in two-dimensional matrix, receives the light by the picture elements arranged in the two-dimensional matrix and two-dimensionally picks up the angle image (i). The spectral transmission factor characteristic of each optical filter of a filter 13 corresponds to color matching function x (λ), y (λ), z (λ), the color matching function x (λ), y (λ), z (λ) or a spectral sensitivity approximate to this can be comprehensively provided with the spectral transmission factor characteristic of the total optical system and the light receiving characteristic of the image pickup means 14, and the output data of the image pickup means 14 corresponds to three stimulation values X, Y, Z.
