Storage material for sulfur oxides

Storage material comprises magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide as a magnesium aluminate spinel in a mole ratio of 1.1:1. The magnesium oxide present in a stoichiometric excess is homogeneously dispersed in the storage material in a highly dispersed form. An Independent claim is also included for the production of the storage material comprising calcining a magnesium/aluminum hydrotalcite having a magnesium oxide/aluminum oxide mole ratio of 1.1:1 at a temperature of 400-600o C for 1-10 hours.
