PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with display performance of high resolution and high quality. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is constituted by charging a liquid crystal layer 15 between a transparent substrate 12 where a common electrode 13 is formed and an active matrix substrate including pixel electrodes 108. The active matrix substrate has signal electrodes D, scanning electrodes G, and the pixel electrode 108, and a display pixel has a switching transistor Tr, a capacitor Cs for signal storage and a pixel electrode, and also has 1st, 2nd, and 3rd metal wiring layers M1, M2, and M3 laminated on a wiring layer forming the gate of the switching transistor across an insulating layer. Portions of the 1st and 2nd metal wiring layers are formed as a signal electrode and a scanning electrode, a 4th metal wiring layer is formed as a pixel electrode, and the 3rd metal wiring layer is formed as an island-shaped repeating pattern 1002 making a connection with the pixel electrode and a light shield pattern 1096 cutting off incident light.
