PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for closing an aperture end capable of easily and surely closing the aperture end of a cylindrical body with a thin cover. SOLUTION: When an upper die 6 is lowered, a heat seal lid 1 is blanked from a sheet 10 for a cover by a peripheral edge of a pressurization surface 6a of the upper die 6 and a peripheral edge of a blanking hole of a blanking die 7 acting as a pair of cutting parts and the peripheral edge of the heat seal lid 1 is held between the pressurization surface 6a of the upper die 6 and an upper face of a presser member 8. An aperture end 2a of a can body 2 is inserted into a through-hole 8a of the presser member 8 and the lower face of the heat seal lid 1 comes into contact with the aperture end 2a of the can body 2. Further, the aperture end 2a of the can body 2 is housed into a recessed part 6b of the upper die 6 together with the heat seal lid 1, accompanying with which the peripheral edge of the heat seal lid 1 is curved along an inner side face of the recessed part 6b of the upper die 6 and the aperture 2a of the can body 2 is covered by the peripheral edge of the heat seal lid 1.
