An installation for automatically milking an animal provided with a box fo r containing an animal to be milked and with a robot arm for automatically connecting teat cups to the teats of the animal, an animal recognition for supplying an animal recognition signal representative of the identity of the animal, a computer with a memory and an input device for inputting animal data relatin g to the animal into the memory. The animal recognition signal is automatically linkable in the memory with the animal data by operating the input device.
