PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical key system which tests the adaptability of two fitting parts by measuring electromagnetic radiation passing through waveguides at least the parts of which are formed of components of individual parts. SOLUTION: A method for controlling the operation of a mechanism (preferably dispenser) having a detachable component comprises a step for measuring the electromagnetic radiation passing through the waveguides at least the parts of which the detachable components bear, and a step for allowing the operation of the mechanism only when the measured electromagnetic radiation corresponds to one or more preliminarily selected parameters. Preferably, the method includes a step for directing the radiated electromagnetic radiation having the preliminarily selected input parameter selected from a plurality of the input parameters to the inlet of the waveguide.
