CYTOPROTECTIVE AGENT OF OPTIC NERVE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preventing/treating agent of eye diseases by using a specific lignin derivative.

SOLUTION: This cytoprotective agent contains 1 kind or ≥2 kinds selected from a group consisting of (a) a water-soluble lignin secondary derivative obtained by alkali-treating a primary derivative of the lignin obtained by adding and mixing an acid to a lignin-containing material solvated with a phenolic compound, (b) the secondary lignin derivative carboxyalkylated by a carboxyalkyl group equipped with a 1-5C lower alkyl group on the (a) primary lignin derivative and (c) a tertiary lignin derivative obtained by carboxyalkylating with the carboxyalkyl group equipped with the 1-5C lower alkyl group on the water-soluble and/or water-insoluble secondary lignin derivative obtained by alkali-treating the primary lignin derivative obtained by adding and mixing the acid to the lignin-containing material solvated with the phenol compound.
