A valve open/close period control device is provided with: a drive-side rotational solid; a driven-side rotational solid; an intermediate locking mechanism for selectively switching between a locked state in which displacement of a relative rotational phase is restrained in an intermediate locking phase in the relative rotational phase of the driven-side rotational solid with respect to the drive-side rotational solid, and an unlocked state in which the locked state is released; and a solenoid valve for changing a drive current applied to a drive source to displace the relative rotational phase in an angle-advancing direction or an angle-delaying direction, and causing the intermediate locking mechanism to switch between the locked state and the unlocked state. During a prescribed operation of an internal combustion engine, the valve open/close period control device sets the drive current value for switching to the unlocked state to a boundary value, which differs by a prescribed value from the drive current value used when the drive current was changed to switch from the unlocked state to the locked state. |
