PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hermetic type compressor of high efficiency in which a reduction in volumetric efficiency is effectively restricted by restricting an increasing in temperature of sucked refrigerant gas.SOLUTION: A suction muffler of a hermetic type compressor of this invention is provided with a communication pipe connected to a suction hole 151a of a valve plate 151. The communication pipe extends upwardly from the suction muffler toward the other end of a cylinder, and its upper end is provided with a communication pipe outlet part 162a communicated with the suction hole 151a. A lower part of a cylinder head 152 is provided with a recess part 152d storing the communication pipe outlet part 162a therein. A gas flowing-in space 152b in the hermetic container is arranged between the communication pipe outlet part 162a and the recess part 152d. The gas flowing-in space 152b in the hermetic container is a clearance communicated with the closed space in the hermetic container and also a heat insulation layer for restricting heat transfer from a cylinder head to the communication pipe outlet part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
