Coating remover compositions and their methods of use are disclosed. The compositions comprise an organic solvent, a saturated or unsaturated C6-C16 alkyl N,N- dialkylamide, and a C6-C16 monoalkyl or C6-C16 dialkyl quaternary ammonium compound. The compositions loosen, dissolve or disintegrate common paints, adhesives, sealants, elastomers, baked-on soils, and other coatings. Surprisingly, the combination of the fatty amide and quaternary ammonium compound, when used with traditional solvents such as NMP or dibasic esters, accelerates removal of a wide range of hard-to-remove coatings, including latex, oil-based paint, alkyds, epoxies, and asphalt cement and avoids the need to use dichloromethane. |
