PURPOSE:To improve the cast-embedding performance and heat-cycle durability by forming a crystalline phase consisting of aluminum titanate, rutile, corundum, etc., and a vitreous phase. CONSTITUTION:A powdery mixture composition having an average particle diameter of <=5mum is produced by mixing 51.7-56.5wt.% of Al2O3, 40.2-45.0wt.% of TiO2, 2.0-5.0wt.% of SiO2, <=0.04wt.% of MgO and <=0.1wt.% (in total) of alkali component consisting of CaO, Na2O and K2O. The powder is formed by a hot-press, etc., and fired at 1350-1450 deg.C to obtain an aluminum titanate ceramic having a crystalline phase composed of 60-85wt.% of aluminum titanate, 10-25wt.% of rutile, 2-10wt.% of corundum and 2-10wt.% of mullite and containing <=5wt.% of vitreous phase. |
