A metal hollow profile component (2) is heated by the supply of a heated pressure medium (7) via a hydraulic pressure intensifier (91). The component is formed by the same pressure intensifier by increasing the pressure, and is cooled after forming by a coolant (7). The fluid medium remaining in the component after the end of the cycle is returned into the cylinder (77,40) of the pressure intensifier. Forming of the component takes place at a temperature of 200 deg C or more, pref. 300 deg C or more. The coolant is pumped into the component via a separate pressure intensifier (90). The component is flushed with an inter gas, pref. nitrogen at the beginning and/or the end of the cycle.
