PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel and a method for driving the same are provided to reduce the load of the driving unit by minimizing the reactive power consumption during the initial discharge. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel includes an image process unit, a logic unit(400) and a driving unit. The image process unit outputs the image data and the control signal in response to the signal inputted from the outside. The logic unit outputs the image data in response to the outputted control signal. The driving unit drives the plasma display panel so as to display the outputted image data. The logic unit is provided with a synchronization signal determination unit(410) and a driving waveform controller(420). The synchronization signal determination unit determines the synchronization signal of the signal outputted from the image process unit. And, the driving waveform controller determines whether the initial drive is normal or not based on the output signal of the synchronization signal determination unit, and outputs the signal to control the subfield in response to the driving state to the driving unit. |
