PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video image recording/reproducing apparatus capable of more easily searching a desired scene. SOLUTION: The video image recording/reproducing apparatus 10 records a video image input from an external apparatus 34 into a recording medium 14. An index is provided to a part of the recorded video image where a predetermined keyword occurs. The presence or absence of occurring and occurring amount of the keyword are detected by a keyword occurring amount detecting unit 16, and a result of detection is output to a level determining unit 24. The unit 24 generates index information to be provided to the part where the predetermined keyword occurs only when the amount of keyword is not less than a reference value, and outputs the generated information to a recording unit 12.
