PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resolution converting method by whicg a smooth inclined edge is obtained and a thin line is stably reproduced having a thickness corresponding to the original thickness when the resolution of a binary image in dot matrix form is made into an integral multiple resolution. SOLUTION: The resolution converting method includes: representing a density of an arbitrary position between pixels of an input image as an interpolation value of a nearby pixel of the input image at the position; overlapping the input image and the output image after the resolution conversion in a setting that pixels at four corners are shifted by a minutely small quantity; allotting a pixel area to each pixel of the output image; and integrating interpolation values of the area of the input image which overlaps the pixel area, standardizing the integrated value with the area of the pixel area, and comparing the obtained value with a predetermined threshold to determine binary data of the pixel.
