PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a void, that is caused when a halftone image is formed succeeding to a black solid image, inconspicuous. SOLUTION: A void image is caused near the black solid image side of a halftone part. In order to thicken toner density in a void area on a photoreceptor corresponding to the void image, exposure to the void area is made more than exposure to the halftone image. Latent image potential in the void area becomes lower than latent image potential to the halftone image, and the amount of toner adhering to the void area becomes more than the amount of toner in the halftone image. In the void area, toner is taken away by a magnetic brush, but the amount of adhering toner is much, so that void does not appear notably when forming an image, and the void is made inconspicuous.
