Disclosed are a presence information polling method and a mobile terminal. The mobile terminal comprises: a presence information collecting unit which regularly requires a presence information providing server to transmit presence information according to a predetermined polling period and receives the same; an application management unit which sets a state value of a terminal operation for applications installed in the mobile terminal; an application confirming unit which confirms a foreground application running on a foreground of the mobile terminal and determines a state value of a terminal operation for the foreground application by using the set state value of a terminal operation; and a polling period setting unit which sets a polling period for presence information in order to correspond to a state value of a terminal operation of the foreground application. |
