摘要 Provided are a display device and a manufacturing method thereof capable of improving a viewing angle. The display device includes: a substrate; a switching element; a pixel electrode; a common electrode; a roof layer; a liquid crystal layer; and an encapsulation layer. The switching element is on the substrate. The pixel electrode is connected with the switching element. The common electrode is spaced apart from the pixel electrode on the pixel electrode with a plurality of microcavities comprising a microcavity therebetween. The roof layer is on the common electrode. The liquid crystal layer fills the microcavity. The encapsulation layer is on the roof layer to seal the microcavity, in which the common electrode includes a protrusion protruding upwards from a portion contacting an upper surface of the microcavity.

A display device, comprising: a substrate; a switching element on the substrate; a pixel electrode connected with the switching element; a common electrode spaced apart from the pixel electrode on the pixel electrode with a plurality of microcavities comprising a microcavity therebetween, the common electrode comprising side portions covering sides of the microcavity; a roof layer on the common electrode; a liquid crystal layer filling the microcavity; and an encapsulation layer on the roof layer to seal the microcavity, wherein the common electrode includes an integral protrusion protruding upwards in a cross-sectional view from a portion contacting an upper surface of the microcavity, the portion contacting the upper surface of the microcavity extending between the side portions, a height of the microcavity positioned below the protrusion is larger than a height of a microcavity of a portion where the protrusion is not formed.
