AUTHENTICATION APPARATUS AND AUTHENTICATION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication apparatus capable of quickly processing without making an authenticated target person feel troublesome.

SOLUTION: The apparatus includes an image pick up device 45; a photographing section 4 for photographing at least an eye of an authentication target person 30; a focus position change section 46 for changing the focus position of the phtographing section 4; an image pick up device controller 49, while making the focus position change section 46 to change the focus position of the phtographing section 4, for reading image signals from the pick up device 45 at a plurality of focus positions; and an authentication processor 17 for iris authentication processing the authentication target person 30 by using image signals of the eye of the authentication target person 30 read from the image pick up device 45.
