PURPOSE: To obtain an arylalkylhydroperoxide compound in a high conversion and in a high concentration, while the decomposition of the produced hydroperoxide is prevented, by oxidizing an arylalkyl hydrocarbon in the presence of a transition metal compound carried on active carbon. CONSTITUTION: Anα-hydrogen-having arylalkyl hydrocarbon [e.g. a compound of formula I (P, Q are H, an alkyl; n is 1-3; Ar is an n-valent aromatic hydrocarbon); concretely cumene, etc.] is oxidized with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a transition metal compound (preferably the compound of Mn, Co, Ru, Rh, Ni, Fe, Cr, Ti, Zr, V or Cu, e.g. manganese acetate) to obtain the objective corresponding oxides compound.
