PURPOSE: To add new functions such as resin reinforcing property, extensibility useful for cosmetics, etc., and UV absorbing property to the conventional known functions of a flame retardant, an acid neutralizing agent, an acid accepting agent for halogen-contg. rubber, a thickener for FRP, etc., peculiar to the conventional Mg-contg. metal hydroxide solid soln. and metal oxide solid soln. CONSTITUTION: This high aspect ratio metal hydroxide solid soln. is represented by the formula Mg1-x M<2+> x (OH)2 (I) (where M<2+> is at least one kind of divalent metal ion selected from among Mn<2+> , Fe<2+> , Co<2+> , Ni<2+> , Cu<2+> and Zn<2+> and 0.01<=x<0.5) and has a hexagonal platy external crystal form, 0.01-0.5μm average thickness, 1-10μm average diameter and an aspect ratio of >=10. This high aspect ratio metal oxide solid soln. is represented by the formula Mg1-x M<2+> x O (II) [where M<2+> and (x) have the same meanings as M<2> and (x) in the formula 11 and has a hexagonal platy external crystal form, 0.01-0.5μm average thickness, 1-10μm average diameter and an aspect ratio of >=10.
