PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a coat with a complicated and multicolor coating pattern such as a drawn picture by applying a powder coating using an electrostatic transfer process or an electrophotographic process. SOLUTION: When coating is applied using a coating device 1, first a powder coating 6 is applied to a part corresponding to the non-coated pattern of a screen 2. Next, the powder coating 6 is rubbed using a printing brush 3 to cause a negative charge in the powder coating 6. To the surface of an object 7 to be coated, a positive voltage is applied using a high voltage generating device 5. After that, the negatively charged powder coating 6 is transferred to a part corresponding to the coated pattern of the screen 2 using the printing brush 3. Further, the transferred powder coating 6 is perpendicularly ejected to the object 7 as a positive electrode through the mesh of the screen 2 on account of the electrostatic properties of the powder coating 6. Thus, the powder coating 6 is made to stick to the surface of the object 7. In succession, the screen 2 is replaced to apply the powder coating 6 of a different color tone. Consequently, it is possible to complete a multicolor painted pattern by applying various kinds of the powder coating 6 to the object 7.
