PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for introducing slits into the periderm of onion as a pretreatment for removal of periderm in a machine for automatically removing the periderm of onion. SOLUTION: Cutter arms 5 moving in the vertical direction are arranged right above an onion to be placed in an inverted state on a cradle. Exchangeable slit cutters 8 are attached to the bottoms of the cutter arms 5. Plural slits are introduced into the periderm of onion in the longitudinal direction of periderm of onion during the drop of the cutter arms 5.
